Why is drainage important behind a retaining wall?
Water adds pressure and can weaken retained soil. A properly planned wall includes free-draining aggregate, drain pipe and outlets where appropriate, plus surface grading that keeps runoff from collecting behind the structure.
When does a retaining wall need geogrid reinforcement?
Geogrid may be required when wall height, slope, soil conditions, or loads behind the wall call for a reinforced soil mass. Final requirements should follow the wall system specifications and any project engineering or permit requirements.
